Bio of Barbara (Stonehocker) Shelton

Family: Married David Shelton.  We have four children: Krista-15, Brad-12, Jay-9 and Erin-7.  Krista is beautiful.  Brad has a lot of faith.  Jay is our socialite.  Erin is without guile.  They all play the piano because they have to considering music / piano was my emphasis in college.  Sometimes they complain about it, but I know they like to show off for their friends, and they are all progressing.  Krista also plays the flute and sings.  Brad also plays the harmonica and soccer.  Jay has just started the trumpet.  Erin sings.  My husband is in financial services.

Church: I've served as Sunday school teacher, relief society teacher and counselor, organist and choir chorister and pianist.

Education: after my mission I returned to BYU to complete my Bachelors degree in Music with a piano pedagogy emphasis.  Then, I went to live in Charlottesville, VA for about nine months because my family had moved there from Boulder, Colorado.  Then, I returned west to attend the University of Colorado to get my Masters in Music.

Work: I have a piano studio in my home and teach piano to a good bunch of kids.  The beauty of it is I can stay at home with my kids and earn a bit, too.  My biggest job is being a mom.

Comps: Sister Anderson, Sister Spence, Sister Backstrom, Sister Bowles, Sister Burnham, Sister Rodriguez, Sister Corbitt, Sister Concepcion, and Sister Ortega.

Areas Served: San Jose, Costa Rica; La Chorrera, Panama; and San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

The mission field gave me such a firm foundation for the rest of my life.  It has given me a knowledge and testimony of the gospel that has helped me through many situations in my life, most particularly in teaching my own children.
