Bio of Bill Luckow

I remember arriving into San Jose, the night that the Guatemala earthquake hit.  The next morning, eating what I believed was some sort of  “oatmeal soup” I thought ….”Oh no….two long years…”  Twenty-two months later, I recall taking the final TicaBus ride from Managua to San Jose and thinking….”Oh no….it was only two years”. They indeed were the best two years.

My life has been touched by so many events in those short two years.  I have been richly blessed and my life enhanced by so many of you, Elders and Sisters.  Our time together was a great honor for me, to have served with you, and the people of Central America.  Here’s a little about me since saying goodbye in early December 1977:

I married Ellen Sue Anderson, of Claremont, California (by way of Phoenix, AZ) in May 1979, a BYU success story.  We lived in Lehi, UT for seven years, while I attended BYU (on and off for too many years, graduating in 1988 with a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering).  I worked full time, and attended school part time for those years.  I don’t recommend that to anybody!  (But, hey, the kids were hungry!)

My work has taken me all over the U.S, to England, to Australia, and Japan for a number of visits.  I took a semester of Japanese at the local college.  Wasn’t as tough as I thought.  My main claims to fame in life are my two children: Michelle, served a 4-month performing mission (church service missionary) in Nauvoo.  She is currently in “Savior of the World” at the SLC conference center.  She will graduate this year from BYU (and promptly, the parental funding will be shut off…!).

Andrew is having too much fun (like his father) in the Curitiba, Brasil mission.  I will do the right thing, go down there, and pasear with him on the way home.  I am desperately learning Portugues, with the great help of some very nice people. (Ainda nao falo muito bem, mas o posso ler, mais o menos…).  Life is good in Oceanside California.

Editor’s note: Bill didn't include his callings in his bio, but I asked in an email if he would provide them.  Callings (in order): Stake Athletics coordinator (lots of fun!), Ward Employment specialist, Blazer teacher (I want this one back....), Finance Clerk, Ward Clerk, Executive Secretary, 2nd Counselor, Bishop.     Link to Bill’s comps.      Link to picture of Bill and Galen Darrough.
