Bio of Eric Sturgess

Married to Patricia Lynn Huber.  We have 4 wonderful children: Andrew 17, David 15, Alicia 14 and Shannon 10.  Andy is the oldest and he will be leaving for his mission in about a year!  Andy, David and Alicia ride together to seminary each morning.  Shannon, Alicia and David are soccer players and love it!  Andy is a state champion swimmer.  Last fall we had a great experience living in London, England and we were all together touring, working (me) and enjoying the sights and sounds of the UK, France and Spain.

Church: I am currently serving as Branch President for the Eagle Valley Branch (Spanish speaking) in Carson City, NV.  I was recently called last April.  I really enjoy the spirit of the faithful members.  I am learning that is key to depend on the Lord in all things -- being humble!  We must do what the Lord wants and not what we want in carrying out His work.

Education: Graduated from BYU in 1982 w/ BS in Business. Received a Master's degree in International Management from American Graduate School of International Management.  Returned to school 6 years ago to take courses for a teaching credential.

Work: I am the Business Instructor and Department Chair at Lake Tahoe Community College.  I made a career switch about 7 years ago.  I was working for about 14 years in Marketing and Product Development for various multinational corporations and decided to switch to teaching in 1997.  I really enjoy being in the classroom!

Hobbies: I enjoy being with my children in all their activities.  I enjoy walking/bike riding in the wide-open spaces and the scenic mountains where we live.  Community Service: Serving as a Director on the South Lake Tahoe, CA Chamber Board

Comps: I had the best comps!  Since the mission I have been in touch with Jerry Pulley and Wayne Christiansen.  Actually Wayne and our family have had a lot of neat experiences together over the years.  It was great to receive and e-mail from Johansen recently...

Areas served: I was a 4-country elder!  Dichos: Ski Honduras.  Pirujo (en Honduras).

Memories: CA Royal Army. Elder Johansen almost getting gored by an ox!  Riding on the top of busses as we traveled in Nicaragua. Traveling to San Pedro Sula from Tegucigalpa so we could attend the special session with Boyd K Packer to make the San Pedro Sula Stake. Copan!  Baptizing in the rivers and the ocean in Panama, Nicaragua and Honduras. The all-day paseo from San Jose to Puerto Limon -- train 7 hours and plane 1 hour return.

My experiences in the mission have significantly contributed to my life.  I am serving the Lord now using a lot of what I learned on the mission!  Thanks to all my comps/leaders and to President Eager and President Muren for your impact on my life -- HLJ!
