Bio of Kent Thompson

 

Family: Married to April Smith Thompson.  Children: Kristy 22, David 19, Steven 17, Heidi 14, Michelle 12, Jared 10, Sam 7, Michael 4, Aaron 2, Katie Anne 2 months. Kristy is serving a mission in Independence Missouri, David in San Salvador El Salvador. Steven is a senior at West High School. Heidi is a freshman at West High. Michelle is in the 7th grade at Northwest Middle School. Jared and Sam are in elementary school and Aaron and Katie keep mom company at home.

 

Church service: Since the mission I have served as Sunday School and Primary teacher, Young Men's President, twice, Elders' Quorum and High Priest Group instructor, High Priest Group leader, Bishop and High Counselor.

 

Education: I graduated from Utah State University in 1987 with a BA in Spanish and History.  I am now enrolled at BYU Graduate School in Spanish. I have taught Spanish at West High for the past 15 years.

 

Work: I teach Spanish 1-5 including the AP and IB (International Baccalaureate) program for gifted students.  I also teach Spanish to the Salt Lake Police Dept. and Translate Web Sites.

 

Hobbies: I like to be with my family camping, fishing, shooting and myriad other activities

 

Community Service: I am a member of the Rose Park Community Council.  I'm CERT and FEMA certified and teach Spanish to anyone in the community who wants to talk to their neighbors.

 

Comps: My Companions were: Timothy Brian, James Midget, Chris Brady, Randy Creager, Daniel Pernett, Miguel Aquilar, David Holmes, James Taylor, Richard Hair, Derrel Webb, Brent Romney, Steve Flint, Fernando Lanza and Craig Nelson.

 

Areas served: I served in San Pedro Sula, Managua, Twice, San Jose (mission office), La Kennedy.

 

My relationship with President Eagar was one of the most influential experiences of my life.  He lifted me beyond myself and taught me much about the Gospel and life.
