Bio of Larry Hartman

Family: Spouse: Burna Bristol. Children: Cameron 22, Kimberly 20, Chris 18, Katie 16 and Curtis 14. I have been blessed with an outstanding wife and family. My wife and I met at BYU during the summer months while working for BYU Conferences and Workshops. We have been blessed with 5 great kids (3 boys and 2 girls). Cameron served his 2-year mission to Paraguay Asuncion North Mission. We recently returned with him to tour the area and meet those he taught, baptized and grew to love. He and Chris are both enrolled at BYU where they are living in our 2nd home we purchased in Provo near the stadium. Kim is at BYU-Idaho and loving it. Chris is loving BYU and will turn 19 next June when he will serve a mission. Katie continues to attend Camarillo High School as a junior even though we moved 20 minutes away in Oxnard. Curt is a freshman in high school playing football and golfing as much as he can. Having two 18-hole golf courses within walking distance of our new home has helped in this area. He recently received his "life" scout rank and wants to match his brothers Eagle Scout awards this year. We love our new home development, and having my school across the street makes it easy to make it to work each day. We are a mile from the beach and love the beautiful weather of Ventura County. I have not missed the snow of Utah since moving back to California in 1990.

Memories: I really enjoyed the people of Central America. Those fond memories seemed to come back as I visited the humble Latin people of Paraguay with my son this past Christmas. I remember the Blue Suede Shoes of Elvis with Elder Pinkston, to the endless adventures of photo taking in Reparto Arriba Tegucigalpa Honduras with Elder Wing and who needed to carry the projector.  The continuous walking of the streets of Chinandega and following the spirit in choosing which houses to visit rather than just knocking on every door. Playing baseball in the streets with the great kids of Nicaragua. Baptizing in the Ocean

David Panama with the revelation of President Kimball for the Blacks to receive the priesthood and to witness that take place immediately with some very faithful members. Also, the beautiful river near David for baptisms.  Santiago - the experience of opening up a city. Lots of prayer and fasting and work to establish a branch there.  Nicaragua- To go back in after the civil war with 8-10 other elders and work with golden contacts that were ready for baptism was priceless. Martial Law at dusk and seeing the military forces and the oppression that was placed on the people was difficult and sad...but to finish off the conversion process with baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost was incredible. So many super people and contacts in such a short time.

La Ceiba Honduras- The strength and support of the Hymas family, working with Elder Blair was an opportunity I will never forget and in the same town as Elder McLemore who had so many similar mission stops and experiences it was like being with close family.  San Jose Costa Rica - To finish in the office serving with Elder Severn and Cheney was obviously a huge and fantastic experience. The office staff and living under one roof and the ping pong games and district activities and of course picking up and driving the president to the office each morning were some quick highlights. Working closely with President Muren and learning all that goes into managing a mission was awesome. It was like a storybook ending to a wonderful 2 years. Each of my companions and those I grew close to teaching and strengthening in the gospel has added so much to my life. It has been the greatest support and strength in laying a foundation of the gospel in my life. Thanks to ALL of you that have been such an influence and example to me.

There hasn't been a day go by that I have not thought back on something or someone in the mission. I am constantly reminded of those 2 years in every church calling that I have served in. My testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel was enriched while on my mission and continues to be stronger each and every day. The power of the Book of Mormon as a guide and handbook to help us through this life and the trials we face has been a big support to my family and me. The greatest thing I learned on my mission that I continue to work on and cultivate in my life is the power of the Holy Spirit and all that it can do for each of us in our lives. From marriage to decisions of moving etc, it is such a great feeling to have the confirmation of the spirit that we are doing what our Heavenly Father would have us do. Even though we may not know why or for what reason, everything turns out perfectly. The power of following the prompting daily has made such a difference in my life. Serving as a bishop and as a full time missionary were my two favorite callings with in the church. Many other great experiences in other callings, but the power and spirit seemed so strong during those two callings in particular.

I would love to attend the reunion however coaching on Friday night makes it impossible for it to happen this time around. I will be there for the next one though as I see my coaching days and the time it takes coming to a close soon.  For any and all companions and friends throughout the mission, please send me your e-mail address and home numbers and mailing addresses and feel free to stop and spend some time whenever you are down near Southern California. We are about 1 hour north of LA in Ventura County and would love to have you stay and share the good times of the mission we so enjoyed.

Sincerely- Larry D. Hartman
