Bio of Quinn Swingle
I too want to let you know what has been happening to me since my time in the mission field. I graduated from BYU in 1985 with a BS in Electronics Technology. I currently work for the Dept of Defense in a group that tests weapons and ammunition for the Marine Corps. Although I live in So. California, we do most of our work in Hawthorne, Nevada (about 2 hours south of Reno). Basically we test some of the weapons in the stockpile to make sure the rest are combat ready. Its pretty interesting stuff and keeps us busy (a lot lately!).
I have been married for 22 years to a woman that some how has put up with me and my antics - after all these years I think I'm finally starting to grow on her! We have 5 children; 2 daughters ages 21 and 19 then 3 boys ages 17, 15 and 10. The girls are at BYU (Junior and Freshman) and the oldest just got her mission call to Taipei, Taiwan - after studying Spanish as a minor! I guess not everyone is lucky enough to go on a Spanish-speaking mission!
We have been very active in the church and have had callings in all the programs. We just moved to a new ward and are waiting for the phone call or a request to meet with the Bishop or one of his counselors - you know the drill! We are enjoying life and trying to do what we know we are supposed to be doing to build up the kingdom here in this area.
A young returned missionary recently said something that I thought was very profound. He said, “my mission may not have been the best two years of my life, but it was the best two years for my life”. Over the years I have reflected back on my mission and cherish the time I spent and experiences I had. I think about the lessons I learned from President Muren and the spiritual growth I had with my companions. I appreciated every one of you guys and what you taught me. I think we can all look back and see how our missions have been stepping stones to help elevate us to a higher spiritual plane.
I am looking forward to this reunion and seeing how gracefully we have all aged! As our eyesight fades we do get better looking! I do have one favor to ask. While returning home I lost most of my mission photos. I would really appreciate getting copies from those I served with. We can work out the details at the reunion, thanks.
