Steven Perkins

Family: Married Holly Keller Perkins.  We have four children:  Children: Alex – 14, Brent – 12, Bethanie – 8 and Curtis – 5.  My wife is wonderful.  She served a mission in Ecuador.  She's a country girl from Idaho, and is a nurse.  She gives my life meaning. The other things giving our lives meaning are our children.  Very energetic and each one special in their own way.  All very adorable. We're proud as can be of them.

Church: I've remained active since my mission serving as counselor and secretary in various Elders Quorums and as Ward Clerk (twice) and Executive Secretary.  I spent time as a Stake Missionary, Mission Secretary and Counselor.  My favorite job was Nursery Leader, but I've enjoyed being a Primary and Sunday School Teacher as well.  I'm currently an Assistant 11-year-old Scout Leader.

Education: I graduated from BYU in Math, and did two years of post-graduate study at the University of Utah.

Work: I currently work in Software Engineering for L-3 Communications in Salt Lake.

Hobbies: I love reading, chess and computer games.  I like to hike and explore wild caves when I have the chance.  I don't play volleyball as much as I'd like any more because my knees give me grief.

Comps: I have fond memories of all of my companions.  I love and respect each and every one.  I hesitate to try to name them here for fear I might forget someone, and I hope they've all forgotten (or forgiven) my foibles and weaknesses.  My District and Zone Leaders also had a powerful influence for good in my mission.  My life has been enriched to the degree I've gotten to know and love my fellow missionaries.

Areas Served: I was able to serve in all four countries, and loved every one.  I loved the people most of all of course.  I served in Colon & David Panama, Desamparados Costa Rica, Managua & Chinandega Nicaragua, and San Pedro Sula Honduras.

Memories: Some of my most vivid memories are of hiding in the rented chapel in Chinandega as war raged in Nicaragua and tanks drove by just outside. The four elders there became way too close camped in our Donas backyard as bullets whizzed around us and planes bombed and strafed the city.  When they aimed at us, they never could fire their rockets.  I have no doubt the Lord was watching over us and the other faithful members.
